Michael Regan, EPA Administrator, mentions Kristal Hansley during his speech.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently highlighted the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) as a key investment in advancing clean energy and climate justice. This initiative, backed by the Inflation Reduction Act, injects billions into renewable energy projects—particularly in underserved communities. At the center of this effort is Kristal Hansley, CEO of WeSolar, whose work in expanding community solar was personally recognized by EPA Administrator Michael Regan.

During his speech, Regan emphasized the importance of GGRF funding in making clean energy accessible, pointing to Hansley’s work in Baltimore as a prime example. “It means when Kristal Hansley of WeSolar, a minority women-owned small business, right here in Baltimore, wants to put solar on the rooftops of churches and schools in the community where she is from—she will have access to the low-cost loans that are essential to making those projects a reality.”

This recognition underscores the critical role of community solar in ensuring energy equity. For WeSolar, the GGRF represents a game-changing opportunity to scale projects that bring affordable, clean energy to historically underserved areas. By partnering with local organizations, developers, and policymakers, WeSolar is working to leverage this funding to expand solar access where it’s needed most.

“This is about ensuring clean energy reaches everyone—not just the wealthy,” said Kristal Hansley. “The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund will help us bring solar to more communities, lowering energy bills and creating local economic opportunities.”

As the EPA pushes forward with GGRF implementation, WeSolar remains committed to ensuring community solar is at the heart of America’s clean energy transition.
